Your 101 Guide to Online shopping for Indian-wear
Updated: May 11
If there is one question I get asked the most, it is where to buy Indian clothes online?
Australia is quite limited in comparison to our overseas counterparts in England, Canada and the like. We don't have a big Indian area full of clothing stores, and the stores we do have often have quite dated stock or order on demand acting as more of a middle man.
Now with Covid19 restricting our travel plans, going to India for your shopping isn't so practical but thank fully there are some great online options. These sites are also perfect for when you just need a once off outfit for an upcoming event - not a whole shopping trip!
These are the sites I've tried and tested, they have reliable shipping to Australia and safe payment methods. They stock a range of designers so you have endless options to find something in your style and budget. They also have sales throughout the year, perfect for moving your wish list items to your cart. Keep in mind a lot of the designer pieces have a 6 week dispatch, but if you have left it to last minute, some of them have a ready to ship section.
1. Pernia's Pop up Shop
If you want pieces fresh off the runway, this is your go to site. It's perfect for inspiration and high quality pieces for those really special events.
From bridal wear designers like Anita Dongre, Ritu Kumar and Abu Jani and Sandeep to designers with younger and fresher designs like Masaba, Pink Peacock Couture and Soup by Sougat Paul.
2. Aza Fashions
Aza, like Pernias has hundreds of different designers, whilst some overlap you will find more labels with mid-tiered price ranges and a better range or menswear and childrens clothing.
3. Aashni + Co
This store is based in England but ships worldwide. They stock less designers overall, but have a wider range per designer so you will often see pieces here you don't see on the above sites. it's definitely worth checking out.
4. The Secret Label
This is my favourite site if I need something casual. Think breezy cotton anarkalis and lots of print! Perfect pieces to wear to small functions and style with unique jewellery. It's pricing is great and they have a flat $15 AUS shipping fee (with min spend).
5. Fayon Kids
Whilst I don't have kids, I have plenty of nieces and nephews and this site is a favourite. They have the cutest kids-wear that isn't blinged up with irritating embroidery.
This was the perfect site for a really reasonably priced outfit that has a lot of flare, fun colours and simple embroidery. Perfect for younger girls who are getting into fashion, but don't want to wear a heavily embroidered outfit or aren't ready to invest in more timeless pieces.
So if you have an upcoming wedding (yours or attending) there are still plenty of ways to to update your indian-wear without going to India. There are so many sites out there, but these are my favourite because they are user friendly, display prices in Australian Dollars, have good shipping rates to Australia and have a huge range of the latest styles.
Stay tuned for part 2, I'll be diving into shopping from individual designers and accessing those gorgeous pieces we see on Instagram.
